People wonder about that kid Criag who sits in class and says nothing. They wonder why ,even though he is a straight A student and it is the end of his senior year, he has yet to apply to any college, or they wonder why, though he is a good looking guy, he's never asked a girl on a date.

If Craig got over his shyness enough to satisfy these thoughts he would just make his classmates wonder even more. Because it is not financial or social issues that keep him from college. It is having absolutely no idea what kind of career or education he is looking for. And a fear of rejection isn't what keeps him from girls, it is a fear that he will pick the wrong one and leave her dissapointed.

It's ironic how his indicisivness and trying to construct a perfect life is exactly what is letting that life get past him. Not being able to decide what he wants out of a fear of the wrong answer leaves him with nothing but a question mark.
